About Zosterops borbonicus (J.R.Forster, 1781)

This species measures 9.5 cm in total length. Its plumage shows distinct colour morphs that range from gray to brown. The tail coverts are conspicuously white, which differs from the tail coverts of the Réunion olive white-eye. The hue of the rest of its body plumage is variable, but it is always lighter than the body plumage of the Réunion olive white-eye. The species is typically blue-grey, with a brownish wash covering the mantle, and has distinctly rufous-brown flanks. It has chestnut-coloured eyes and a very indistinct eye-ring, another feature that sets it apart from the Réunion olive white-eye. Both this species and the Réunion olive white-eye have breast and flank feathers that create a white "epaulette" effect.
