About Zosterops atrifrons Wallace, 1864
The black-crowned white-eye, with the scientific name Zosterops atrifrons, is a species of songbird. It is closely related to Old World babblers, and its own family Zosteropidae may be more appropriately included in Timaliidae. The subspecies of this bird found in the Sulawesi region may need to be recognized as a separate distinct species, Z. subatrifrons. The Sangihe white-eye (Z. nehrkorni) and the Seram white-eye (Z. stalkeri) were previously classified as part of Z. atrifrons. The black-fronted white-eye (Z. minor) is still occasionally classified as part of Z. atrifrons. This species is endemic to Indonesia. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. It is quite common, and the IUCN does not consider it to be a threatened species.
