About Zosterops anderssoni Shelley, 1892
The southern yellow white-eye (Zosterops anderssoni) is a bird species belonging to the family Zosteropidae. It is distributed across parts of southern Africa. This species was formerly considered to be conspecific with the African yellow white-eye, and was previously treated as a subspecies of Zosterops senegalensis, which was renamed the northern yellow white-eye. It is now recognized as a separate species, based on phylogenetic relationships identified in a 2013 molecular study. Three subspecies of southern yellow white-eye are currently recognized. Z. a. anderssoni Shelley, 1892 occurs from east and south Angola and north Namibia to southwest Tanzania, west Mozambique and north South Africa. Z. a. tongensis Roberts, 1931 occurs in southeast Zimbabwe, south Mozambique and northeast South Africa. Z. a. stierlingi Reichenow, 1899 occurs in east and south Tanzania, east Zambia, Malawi and north Mozambique. The diet of the southern yellow white-eye includes insects, fruits, seeds, and grains.
