This moth species Zonoplusia ochreata has a wingspan ranging from 24 to 26 mm. Its palpi feature a short third joint. Males of the species do not have tufts of long hair on their hind femur. The thorax is suffused with fiery orange. On the forewings, copper color is limited to the apical section of the outer area. The stigma is formed by a fuscous and white streak that runs from the costa at the anteromedial line to the post medial lines at vein 2. The anteromedial and post medial lines are almost erect, and the post medial line is sinuous. The larvae of Zonoplusia ochreata feed on species from the Polygonum genus.
