About Zhangixalus prasinatus (Mou, Risch & Lue, 1983)
Zhangixalus prasinatus has common names including the tributary flying frog, green treefrog, and emerald green treefrog. It is a species of flying frog in the family Rhacophoridae, and it is endemic to northern Taiwan. Individuals have only been observed at elevations between 400 and 600 meters above sea level. This frog lives in hilly area habitats including orchards, tea plantations, bamboo forests, shrublands, and forests. Its known range includes multiple protected areas, one of which is Hapen Nature Reserve. This species breeds in tree holes, and will also breed in artificial containers like cisterns, buckets, and water tanks. It is currently threatened by habitat loss and degradation, caused specifically by agriculture, grazing, urbanization, and shifting agricultural practices that involve increased pesticide use. Researchers think this species may have some level of tolerance to modified habitats.
