About Zhangixalus aurantiventris (Lue, Lai & Chen, 1994)
This species is the frog Zhangixalus aurantiventris, originally described by Lue, Lai & Chen in 1994. For adult males from the type series, snout–vent length measures 47–53 mm (1.9–2.1 in). In one population found in Taitung County, adult males have a snout–vent length of 51–63 mm (2.0–2.5 in), while adult females measure 63–71 mm (2.5–2.8 in). In this Taitung County population, the mean body mass is 8 grams for males and 15 grams for females. The snout of this frog is short and roundish. The tympanum is nearly circular, and a supratympanic fold is present. Both the fingers and toes have webbing and adhesive discs, with the finger discs being larger than the toe discs. The skin is smooth. The dorsum is dark green, and may have pale yellowish spots. The lips are white, and the venter is orange-red. The iris is plain yellow, and the pupil is vertical. Males produce an advertisement call that sounds like a low-pitched "gree", and the call lasts approximately 0.4 seconds. This frog inhabits forests. It breeds in tree trunk holes and buckets, a type of microhabitat that only occurs in primary forest. Its known range includes two protected areas: Fu-shan Nature Reserve and Li-chia Wildlife Refuge. It has been observed at elevations from 0 to 1000 meters above sea level.
