About Zeuxine strateumatica (L.) Schltr.
Zeuxine strateumatica (L.) Schltr., commonly known as the lawn orchid or soldier orchid, is a species of terrestrial orchid. It is widely distributed across much of Asia, including China, Japan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Iran, Afghanistan, the Indian subcontinent, and Southeast Asia. Its native range also extends to New Guinea and some Pacific islands. It has become naturalized in Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Tamaulipas (northeastern Mexico), the West Indies, Hawaii, California, and the southeastern United States stretching from Texas to Georgia. This species is a perennial herb that grows up to 25 centimeters tall. It has linear or narrowly lanceolate leaves that can reach up to 9 centimeters in length. Its flowers grow on an erect panicle that can hold up to 50 individual flowers; each flower is white with a yellow lip. In its native Asian habitat, Zeuxine strateumatica grows in grasslands and along streambanks. In regions where it has been introduced, it often grows in lawns and agricultural fields, so it is considered a nuisance weed.
