About Zale helata Smith, 1908

Zale helata, commonly known as the brown-spotted zale, is a moth species belonging to the family Noctuidae. This species was first described by James Halliday McDunnough in 1943. It can be found in barrens and pine woodlands, with a range extending from Manitoba to Maine, and southward to northern Alabama and Texas. The wingspan of Zale helata adults measures 35 to 41 mm. Adults are active on the wing from May to June, and the species produces one generation per year.
