About Yuhina flavicollis Hodgson, 1836
The whiskered yuhina (Yuhina flavicollis) is a bird species that belongs to the white-eye family Zosteropidae. Its geographic range stretches across Himalayan forests, from northern India through northeastern Indian states, Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh, and extends eastward into Indochina, covering Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.
Whiskered yuhinas sometimes join mixed foraging parties with other yuhina and fulvetta species, but reports note that they do not associate with such mixed groups in some areas. This species is described as one of the most common yuhinas in the Himalayas, though it is relatively uncommon to rare at low elevations. It favors relatively undisturbed closed canopy forest cover. It is one of multiple bird species hunted by livestock herders in Northeast India.
