About Yucca rupicola Scheele

Yucca rupicola Scheele is a species of plant in the family Asparagaceae. It has several common names: twistleaf yucca, twisted-leaf yucca, Texas yucca, and twisted-leaf Spanish-dagger. The species was first formally described by George Heinrich Adolf Scheele in 1850. This is a small acaulescent plant, recognized by its distinctive twisted leaves. It is native to the Edwards Plateau region of Texas, as well as to northeastern Mexico, specifically the states of Coahuila and Nuevo León. Yucca rupicola grows in colonies of rosettes. It does not produce above-ground trunks, but it forms a branched caudex beneath the soil surface. Its leaves are narrowly lanceolate, slightly succulent, and twisted. Leaves can reach up to 60 cm in length, and are approximately 40 mm wide at their widest point. The flowers are pendant (drooping), bell-shaped, and colored white or greenish. The fruit is a dry capsule that can grow up to 6 cm long.
