It is native to Utah, Nevada, Colorado, northeastern Arizona and northern New Mexico in the United States, growing at elevations between 1000 m and 2700 m. This is a small, stemless (acaulescent) yucca species that grows in clumps of rosettes. Its flowers are nodding (hanging downward), with a mix of greenish-white and purplish coloring. The species is closely related to Yucca sterilis (Neese & S.L.Welsh) S.L.Welsh & L.C.Higgins. The species as a whole is relatively common and has a wide distribution.
