About Ypsolopha parenthesella (Linnaeus, 1761)
Ypsolopha parenthesella is a moth species belonging to the family Ypsolophidae. Its distribution ranges from Europe to Japan, and it is also present in north-eastern China, Asia Minor, and Middle Asia. The wingspan of this moth measures 16–20 mm. The head is white or ochreous-whitish. Forewings are pale to rather deep golden-ochreous, with scattered blackish strigulae; they are sometimes heavily suffused with dark bronzy-fuscous. Most individuals have a white longitudinal blotch that runs along or beneath the basal half of the costa. There is one blackish dot above the tornus, and a second at the apex. Hindwings are grey. The larva is yellowish-green, with a slender, yellowish subdorsal line, black dots, and a brownish head. This is a variable species, particularly in its wing pattern and colour. Adult moths are active on the wing from August to September. The larvae feed on a variety of trees, including species from the genera Quercus, Fagus, Fraxinus, Populus, Carpinus (including Carpinus betulus), Crataegus, Malus, and Betula, as well as Corylus avellana.
