About Ypsolopha mucronella (Scopoli, 1763)

Ypsolopha mucronella is a moth species belonging to the family Ypsolophidae. Its distribution ranges from Europe, through Siberia to Japan, and it is also found in Asia Minor. This species has a wingspan of 26 to 33 mm. Its forewings are narrow, with a very strongly and sharply pointed apex; they are light brownish-ochreous, scattered with black scales, and the veins are obscurely whitish. A dark fuscous streak runs along the fold from the base to beyond the middle of the wing, and there are sometimes additional dark streaks between the veins. A raised dark fuscous dot sits beneath the fold before the middle of the wing. The hindwings are pale whitish-fuscous. The larva is greenish-grey, marbled with rosy-ochreous, with a whitish dorsal line, and bears pairs of black spots on its third and fourth segments. Adult moths are active and in flight from August to April. The larvae feed on species of the genus Euonymus, including Euonymus europaeus.
