About Yponomeuta plumbella (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1776
Yponomeuta plumbella (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1776 has a wingspan ranging from 16 to 20 millimeters. In the adult (imago) stage, the forewings are white with three rows of very small black spots, which is the characteristic that gives ermine moths their family name, while the hindwings are greyish. This species can be clearly distinguished from related species by a larger black splotch in the middle of the inner rim of the forewing, and a black marking at the tip of the forewing. The legs and long antennae of the adult moth are white. First instar larvae are straw-yellow, with black spots along their sides, and have yellow heads. When fully developed, the caterpillar reaches a length of 18–20 millimeters (0.71–0.79 in). This species is widespread across most of Europe and in Asia Minor. Yponomeuta plumbella moths live in fields and parks where their host plants grow.
