This moth has a wingspan that ranges from 19 to 26 millimetres. Its head is white. The forewings are white, marked with four longitudinal rows that each contain a small number of black dots. The first row does not reach the middle of the wing, the second row starts just before the middle of the wing, and the lowest row holds between 4 and 7 dots. There are some extra black dots located before the termen, and the forewing cilia are white. The hindwings are dark grey. Fully grown larvae are pale greyish-yellow, with black spots and a black head. The adult moth is active in flight from the end of June through October, and it is attracted to light.
