About Yersiniops solitarius (Scudder, 1896)

Yersiniops solitarius (Scudder, 1896) is a species of praying mantis native to the United States. It has been recorded in Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado. In southeastern Colorado, this uncommonly observed species lives in prairie sites that contain a mix of grasses and shrubs. It is a small mantid, with an adult body length ranging from 18 to 22 millimetres, or 0.71 to 0.87 inches. Individuals are often straw-colored, and have a slightly pointed projection in the region around their eyes. Members of this species are either wingless, or have very short, non-functional wings. Yersiniops solitarius is an excellent jumper.
