About Xyris operculata Labill.

Xyris operculata, commonly known as the tall yellow-eye, is a flowering plant species that is endemic to south eastern Australia. It is found in swampy areas, very often in heathland habitats. It is a tufted herb that can grow up to 1 metre in height. This species was one of the many plants first formally published by Jacques Labillardière, appearing in his work Novae Hollandiae Plantarum Specimen in 1805. Its specific epithet operculata comes from Latin; it refers to the hardened tip of the plant's fruiting capsule. This tip does not split when the rest of the capsule opens, and it can be observed becoming detached like a lid.
