About Xyris complanata R.Br.
Xyris complanata R.Br., commonly called the feathered yellow-eye, is a tufted herb belonging to the Xyridaceae plant family. It is native to southern China, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia (including the islands of Java, Sulawesi, Kalimantan, and Sumatra), the Philippines, New Guinea, and Australia (including the regions of New South Wales, Queensland, Northern Territory, and Western Australia). It has also become naturalized in Hawaii, where it goes by the common name Hawai'i yelloweyed grass. In the Australian state of New South Wales, this species grows in moist locations, most commonly near swamps or within heathland. Its specific epithet complanata references the plant's flattened leaf stalk. Xyris complanata was first formally described and published in scientific literature in 1810.
