About Xyris caroliniana Walter

Xyris caroliniana Walter, commonly known as Carolina yelloweyed grass, is a North American flowering plant species that belongs to the yellow-eyed-grass family. It is native to Cuba and the coastal plain of the southern and eastern United States, ranging from eastern Texas to New Jersey. This species is a perennial herb that can grow up to 100 cm (40 inches) tall. It has narrow leaves that reach up to 50 cm (20 inches) in length, and it produces yellow flowers. Within the U.S. states of Florida and Georgia, Xyris caroliniana has been observed growing in habitats including mesic sandy meadows, wiregrass-longleaf pinewoods, and slash pine woodlands.
