About Xylophanes ceratomioides Grote & Robinson, 1866

Xylophanes ceratomioides, first described by Grote & Robinson in 1866, has a wingspan ranging from 86 to 96 mm. The outer margin of its forewing is slightly scalloped. Long, narrow, whitish scales are present on the upperside of its abdomen. The base of the forewing upperside is dark, often almost black, but it has an off-white patch along the inner edge. The costa bears several conspicuous subapical and apical black spots; the largest of these subapical spots is triangular, with its inner point directed toward the base of the wing. The subbasal band on the hindwing upperside is off-white, and is divided medially into two separate patches by a longitudinal black band.
