About Xylesthia pruniramiella Clemens, 1859
Xylesthia pruniramiella, commonly called Clemens' bark moth, is a moth species that belongs to the Tineidae family. This species is found in North America, and it has been recorded across a range extending from New Hampshire to Florida, and from Illinois to Texas. The wingspan of adult individuals measures 12.7 to 13.7 mm. The forewings are a mix of blackish brown and luteous brown, with some irregular whitish markings and patches of raised scales near the base and along the fold. There are three indistinct whitish bands: one crossing the middle of the disc, an even fainter band closer to the base, and a third band located near the end of the disc. A white dorsal spot sits at the inner angle, with a whitish streak extending from the costa above this spot. An additional whitish costal streak runs between this streak and the wing tip. There is a blackish spot at the wing tip, which is bordered by white on its forward edge. The hindwings are dark brown, with a faint reddish tinge. Adult moths can be seen in flight from February through December. The larvae of this species feed on the woody growths that form on the branches of plum trees.
