About Xerotyphlops vermicularis (Merrem, 1820)

Xerotyphlops vermicularis (Merrem, 1820), commonly called the European blind snake, is a small, earthworm-like snake with a maximum total length of 35 cm. Its head, body, and tail are barely differentiated from one another, appearing as a single continuous segment. Its body color is most often light brown, yellowish, or flesh-toned. Juveniles typically share the same coloration as adults, though some smaller young individuals are pinkish. It is hard to distinguish male from female European blind snakes, but males usually have longer tails than females.
