About Xanthosoma robustum Schott

Xanthosoma robustum Schott, commonly called Elephant Ear, is a robust herbaceous plant. It is native to Central Mexico and Central America, and can reach a maximum height of 4 meters. This species is an important plant that has three main uses: it is used as a food source, in medicine, and in environmental applications. Its leaves are large, waxy, green, and can grow to be over one meter in length. It produces distinct inflorescences, which feature a spathe that ranges in color from white to yellowish-green, and a spadix that ranges in color from pale yellow to ochre.
