Xanthorrhoea platyphylla D.J.Bedford is a perennial grass tree species. It typically reaches a total height of 3 metres (10 ft), with a trunk length ranging from 0 to 0.6 metres (0 to 2 ft), a scape length of 0.5 to 0.8 metres (1.6 to 2.6 ft), and a flower spike length of 0.9 to 1.6 metres (3 to 5 ft). It blooms in June and produces cream-white flowers. The species has a scattered distribution along the south coast of Western Australia, in the Great Southern and Goldfields-Esperance regions between Albany and Cape Arid. It grows in sandy-clay soils that contain gravel.
