About Xanthoparmelia camtschadalis (Ach.) Hale
The lichen Xanthoparmelia camtschadalis (Ach.) Hale has a foliose thallus that can grow up to 10 cm (4 in) in diameter. The upper surface of its thallus ranges from yellowish-green to grayish-green, while the lower surface is black. This species produces small, cup-shaped reproductive structures called apothecia. Its apothecia are typically dark brown, and can grow up to 5 mm (0.2 in) in diameter. The lichen occurs in high elevation regions across the globe, including the Rocky Mountains of North America and Mongolia.
