This species, commonly called the red and blue damsel, has a scientific name of Xanthagrion erythroneurum Selys, 1876. In terms of physical description, its face and thorax are bright red. Its abdomen is pale in colour, and measures between 2.2 and 2.4 centimetres in length. Male and female individuals of this species are similar in colouration. For distribution and habitat, the red and blue damsel is widespread across all Australian states, and also occurs in Fiji, New Caledonia, and other Pacific islands. In Tasmania, it is found in the north and eastern parts of the state. It typically lives near dams, marshes, and slow-moving watercourses.
