About Wyethia glabra A.Gray
Wyethia glabra A.Gray is a species of flowering plant in the Asteraceae family, commonly called Coast Range mule's ears. This species is endemic to California, growing in the North and Central Coast Ranges. It is a perennial herb that grows from a tough taproot and caudex unit, producing a stem that reaches up to 40 centimeters in height. The plant ranges from hairless to hairy, and has glandular tissue. Its leaves bear lance-shaped or oval blades that can grow up to 45 centimeters long. The inflorescence is most often a single solitary flower head, but occasionally forms a cluster of 2 or more heads. At the base of each head are lance-shaped, leaf-like phyllaries. The head holds up to 21 yellow ray florets, each up to 5 centimeters long, plus many yellow disc florets. Its fruit is an achene that measures over one centimeter long when its pappus is included.
