About Williamsonia fletcheri Williamson, 1923
The ebony boghaunter, scientifically named Williamsonia fletcheri Williamson, 1923, is a small species of emerald dragonfly. Adult individuals measure 29 to 35 millimeters in length, with a dark brown to black body. Males have bright green eyes, while female eyes are duller in color. The base of the abdomen has several white rings, and the wings are clear, with only orange tinge at the base. Larvae of this species are approximately 16 millimeters long, are brown in color, and have a paler stripe running down the back. These larvae are nearly identical to the larvae of the closely related species Williamsonia lintneri. Despite repeated collecting attempts, larvae of this species were not successfully collected until 1985. The ebony boghaunter has a narrow geographic range that extends from Manitoba, eastern Minnesota and northern Wisconsin, through Michigan, northern New York, and central Ontario, and eastward to New England and the southern parts of the Canadian Maritimes.
