About Willema willemi
Willema willemi, commonly known as the netted sylph, is a butterfly species that belongs to the family Hesperiidae. It can be found across multiple regions of Africa, ranging from Transvaal in South Africa, Botswana, and Zimbabwe, northwards to Kenya, Uganda, and Somalia. Its native habitat includes savanna, particularly areas along streams lined with trees that form an almost closed tree canopy, as well as dense, wooded clusters of bush. This species has a wingspan that measures between 30 and 32 mm. Adult Willema willemi are active from December through May, with their population peak occurring between February and March. There is one extended generation of this butterfly produced each year. The larvae of Willema willemi feed on plant species belonging to the genus Setaria.
