Weigela florida (Bunge) A.DC., also known by the synonym Weigela praecox and commonly called old-fashioned weigela, is a flowering plant species belonging to the Caprifoliaceae family. It is native to Inner Mongolia, Manchuria, northern and south-central China, Primorsky Krai in the Russian Far East, the Korean Peninsula, and Kyushu in Japan. This species has been introduced to Bulgaria, Great Britain, Ireland, the United States, and Uzbekistan. It is a deciduous shrub that grows to 2.5 meters (8 feet) tall. In the wild, it typically grows in scrublands and mixed evergreen and deciduous forests, at elevations between 100 and 1,500 meters (300 and 4,900 feet) above sea level. It is recommended for use as screens and hedges, attracts hummingbirds, is cold hardy in USDA zones 4 through 8, and requires full sun to grow.
