About Volucella evecta Walker, 1852
For explanation of morphological terms used here, see Morphology of Diptera. Body length ranges from 13 to 18 millimetres (0.51 to 0.71 inches). For the head: the frons is black with yellow pile; the face ranges in color from black to chestnut, and is covered with yellow pile. In profile, the face is excavated below the antennae. The antenna has an elongate dark red flagellum, with a long, densely plumose arista. The eyes are covered in pile, and the eyes are contiguous in male individuals. For the thorax: the scutum is black and completely covered with yellow pile; the scutellum is yellow with yellow pile. The pleura have yellow pile on their anterior portion. For the wings: the marginal cell is closed, and the anterior cross-vein M1 curves basally. A dark brown spot is present on the wings. For the legs: the legs are black with black pile. For the abdomen: the abdomen is black with black pile, with the exception of the second segment, which is entirely covered with yellow pile.
