About Vitula edmandsii Packard, 1865

Vitula edmandsii, commonly known as the American wax moth, dried-fruit moth, or dried fruit moth, is a species of snout moth belonging to the genus Vitula. It shares the common name 'dried fruit moth' with another moth species, Cadra calidella. This species was first described by Packard in 1865, and its scientific name is formally recorded as Vitula edmandsii Packard, 1865. Its known distribution includes Germany, Denmark, Fennoscandia, Great Britain, and eastern North America. A taxon called the beehive honey moth, subspecies serratilineella, occurs in western North America; this taxon is treated either as a full separate species or as a subspecies of Vitula edmandsii. The wingspan of Vitula edmandsii ranges from 20 to 25 mm.
