This bird species, Vireo griseus, has the following physical measurements: length ranges from 4.3 to 5.1 inches (11 to 13 cm), weight ranges from 0.3 to 0.5 ounces (10 to 14 g), and average wingspan is 6.7 inches (17 cm). Its head and back are greyish olive, while its underparts are white with yellow flanks. The wings and tail are dark, and each wing has two white wing bars. It has white irises, with yellow rings surrounding the eyes that form a spectacle-like pattern. Male and female individuals of this species have similar plumage. For distribution and habitat, this species breeds in the eastern United States, ranging from New England west to northern Missouri, and south to Texas and Florida. It also breeds in eastern Mexico, northern Central America, Cuba, and the Bahamas. Populations living on the US Gulf Coast and in areas further south are permanent residents, while most other North American populations migrate south for the winter. This vireo most often lives in bushes and shrubs located in abandoned farmland or overgrown pastures.
