About Virbia ferruginosa Walker, 1854
Virbia ferruginosa, commonly known as the rusty holomelina, is a moth species belonging to the family Erebidae. It was first described by Francis Walker in 1854. In Canada, this moth can be found from Nova Scotia west to British Columbia. In the United States, it occurs across the northeast and upper Midwest, ranging south to the states of Virginia, Mississippi, Missouri, and Louisiana. This species produces one generation per year, with adult moths active in flight during the month of July. Its larvae have been successfully reared using species of dandelion as food.
