About Viola sheltonii Torr.

Viola sheltonii Torr. is a species of violet that has two common names: Shelton's violet and fan violet. It is native to the western United States, where it grows in forest, woodland, and chaparral habitats. This rhizomatous herb grows a cluster of stems that reach a maximum height of around 27 centimeters. Its fan-shaped leaf blades are each divided into leaflets that are deeply cut into narrow segments, and the entire blade grows from a long petiole. A single flower is borne on a long, upright stem. The flower has five yellow petals: the three lower petals feature purple-brown veins, and the two upper petals have purple-brown markings on their outer surfaces.
