About Viola sagittata Aiton
Viola sagittata Aiton, commonly known as the arrowleaf violet, is a species of flowering plant in the violet family Violaceae. It is native to eastern North America, occurring across widespread areas of both Canada and the United States. It grows in a range of natural habitats, and is most abundant in dry, open communities including prairies, glades, and open woodlands, where it is often found growing in sandy or rocky soil. Viola sagittata is a stemless perennial herb. Within its native range, it can be told apart from other Viola species by its leaves, which are much longer than they are wide and have truncate to subcordate bases. This species produces purple flowers during the spring.
