About Viola palmata L.

Viola palmata L. is a species of flowering plant in the Violaceae family. It is commonly called the trilobed violet, early blue violet, or wood violet — note that these common names are also used for other species in the Viola genus. This violet is native to southeastern Canada and the eastern half of the United States. It is often confused with Viola triloba. V. palmata belongs to the group commonly known as "blue stemless violets". It is characterized by cleistogamous flowers that grow on short, prostrate peduncles, and these flowers are often concealed under dead leaves or in the soil.
