About Viola calcarata L.

Viola calcarata L. is a plant that reaches up to 15 centimeters in height. It has a short, hairless stem that bears leaves in its lower portion, and the stem can grow prostrate, ascending, or suberect. This is an alpine species that typically grows at elevations between 1500 meters and 2800 meters, in meadows and pastures. Research indicates that as alpine climates become warmer, this plant will likely face greater challenges than most other plant species. For example, projections show it will go extinct in the Swiss Alps around 2050, even under more optimistic climate change scenarios.
