Vicia sylvatica L. is a herbaceous perennial climbing plant. Its leaves carry 4 to 12 pairs of leaflets, and terminate in branched tendrils. The flowers measure 15 to 20 mm long, and are arranged in racemes that hold up to 18 flowers each. The plant's petals are white with purple veins, and its fruit is a legume pod that contains 4 to 5 seeds. This species grows in woods, on rocky ground, and on scree. It has been recorded across most of Ireland.
