Vicia lutea L. is an annual herb. Its leaves are composed of several pairs of leaflets, which are oblong or linear in shape, and each leaflet measures 1 to 2 centimeters long. The plant produces either solitary flowers, or clusters that hold up to 3 flowers. The corollas of these flowers are yellow or tinged with purple, and can reach up to 3 centimeters in length. Vicia lutea L. is native to Europe, western Asia, and North Africa. It is also recognized as an introduced species on other continents.
