About Viburnum obovatum Walter

Viburnum obovatum, commonly called small-leaf viburnum or Walter's viburnum, is a plant species in the genus Viburnum, part of the Adoxaceae (muskroot) family. It grows as an evergreen to semi-evergreen shrub or small tree, and is native to the southeastern United States. In its native range, it grows in woodlands, along stream banks, and in moist hammocks. This species typically reaches 10 to 20 feet (3 to 6 meters) in both height and width. It has small, glossy, oval leaves, produces white spring flowers arranged in cymes, and bears blue-black drupes that serve as food for birds and other wildlife. Viburnum obovatum is widely used in landscaping for privacy hedges and screens. It tolerates pruning well, so it can be maintained as a dense shrub or trained to grow into a small tree form.
