About Vibrissea truncorum (Alb. & Schwein.) Fr.
Vibrissea truncorum, commonly called the water club mushroom, is a fungus that reaches approximately 2 centimetres (3โ4 inch) in total height. Its cap measures between 0.3โ0.5 cm (1โ8โ1โ4 in) wide. This species is identifiable by its yellow, orange, or reddish fruiting body, paired with a stem that ranges from white to bluish-gray, which darkens to brown at its base. Vibrissea truncorum is a cosmopolitan species found across the Northern Hemisphere, including North America (the Pacific Northwest and Atlantic Northeast), Europe, and Japan. It occurs rarely in eastern Russia and Chile. Its populations are most heavily concentrated in Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Western Russia, and it can also be found in the United Kingdom and Southwestern Europe. The water club mushroom typically grows on partially or fully submerged wood in streams located at higher elevations.
