About Veronica austriaca L.

Veronica austriaca, commonly known as broadleaf speedwell, large speedwell, Austrian speedwell, or saw-leaved speedwell, is a flowering plant species belonging to the plantain family Plantaginaceae. It is native to northern temperate Europe. This mound-forming herbaceous perennial grows to 90 cm (35 in) tall and 60 cm (24 in) wide. It has deeply toothed leaves and produces erect spikes of bright blue flowers throughout the summer. Its specific epithet austriaca refers to Austria, which falls within the species' native range. Several cultivars of this plant are available commercially. Two cultivars, Veronica austriaca subsp. teucrium 'Crater Lake Blue' and Veronica austriaca subsp. teucrium 'Royal Blue', have earned the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
