Vernonia texana, commonly known as Texas ironweed, is a species of flowering plant that belongs to the aster family, Asteraceae. It is native to eastern North America, and occurs primarily in the South Central region of the United States. Its natural habitat is open sandy woodlands. Vernonia texana is an erect herbaceous perennial plant. It has alternate, linear-lanceolate leaves, and produces purple flower heads during the summer.
