About Verbesina virginica L.

Verbesina virginica L. grows up to 2.1 metres (6.9 ft) tall, and has winged stalks with alternate, oval or lanceolate leaves. The leaves can reach up to 18 centimetres (7.1 in) long and 5.1 centimetres (2 in) wide, with slightly toothed margins. Flower heads are arranged in a terminal corymb cluster at the end of stems. Each individual flower head contains 1 to 5 ray florets and 8 to 15 disk florets. This species is endemic to an area stretching from Iowa to Pennsylvania, then south along the United States east coast to the Florida peninsula. The majority of the species' individuals are found within Florida. It has been recorded growing in mesic woodlands, slash pinewoods, floodplains, and mixed oak-pine woodlands.
