About Verbena rigida Spreng.

Verbena rigida Spreng., commonly called slender vervain or tuberous vervain, is a flowering herbaceous perennial plant that belongs to the Verbenaceae family. It is native to Brazil and Argentina. It is not fully hardy in temperate climates, so in these regions it is grown from seed as an annual plant. It grows up to 60 centimetres (24 inches) tall, and has a spreading growth habit. It produces stalkless toothed leaves, and in summer, clusters of scented bright purple or magenta flowers grow on branched stalks. Numerous cultivars have been selected for use in gardens, and the species itself has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
