About Verbena menthifolia Benth.

Verbena menthifolia Benth. is a verbena species that has the common names mint-leaved vervain and mint vervain. It is native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico, where it grows in many types of open, dry habitat including desert scrub. This perennial herb grows one or more rough-haired, erect stems that reach a maximum height of around 75 centimeters. Its hairy leaves are a few centimeters long, and are divided near the base into several narrow lobes with serrated edges. The inflorescence consists of one to three narrow, erect spikes of flowers that grow up to 30 centimeters long. The flowers are spaced apart rather than densely packed along the slender spike. Each flower has a small purple corolla that is 2 to 3 millimeters wide.
