About Verbena L.

Verbena rigida, commonly called slender vervain or tuberous vervain, is a flowering herbaceous perennial plant that belongs to the Verbenaceae family. It is native to Brazil and Argentina. It is not fully hardy in temperate climates, so in these regions it is usually grown from seed as an annual plant. It reaches a height of 60 centimetres (24 inches), and has a spreading growth habit. It produces stalkless toothed leaves, and in summer it bears clusters of bright purple or magenta, scented flowers that are held on branched stalks. Numerous cultivars have been selected specifically for garden cultivation, and the species itself has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
