About Verbena bipinnatifida var. latilobata L.M.Perry
This taxon is a variety of the species Verbena bipinnatifida, which grows as an herbaceous or semi-woody perennial plant. It bears pink or purple flowers that bloom primarily in spring, though flowering can occur at any time during the growing season. Its leaves are finely dissected into segments measuring 1–4 mm wide. It can be told apart from the visually similar Verbena tenera by its longer flower bracts and wider leaf segments. This taxon is native to North America, with its natural native range stretching from the United States southward to Nicaragua. Within the United States, it occurs primarily in the Great Plains and the Blackland Prairies of the Southeast. In other parts of North America outside its native range, it is occasionally found as a non-persistent waif that does not establish lasting populations. Its natural habitat consists of open grassy areas, including prairies. It can grow in both intact high-quality natural communities and human-disturbed areas.
