About Verbascum speciosum Schrad.
Verbascum speciosum Schrad. is a flowering plant species in the figwort family. It has two common names: Hungarian mullein and showy mullein. This species is native to eastern Europe and western Asia, and in many other regions it occurs as an introduced species and a roadside weed. It is a biennial herb. It first produces a rosette of large leaves, then grows an erect stem that can reach a maximum height well over one meter. Its leaves are 30 to 40 centimeters long, with smooth edges and pointed tips. It blooms in a large, many-branched panicle, with flowers arranged along the panicle branches. Each flower has a 2 to 3 centimeter wide corolla, made up of five yellow petals. Five stamens covered in long white hairs are located at the center of the flower. The plant produces a fruit that is a capsule up to 7 millimeters long, which contains many seeds.
